If you happen to be in San Francisco in the spring (which is a very good time to be there) you will enjoy the cherry trees in blossom, the Monterey Pine which was brought from Golden Gate Park's ocean front in 1900, Mt. Fuji Hedge which can be seen from the tea house in the distance beyond the pond, the New Dragon Hedge surrounded by a bamboo background, blooming irises, dwarf trees and the Drum bridge which has been here since the beginning when the Japanese Garden was a Japanese Village in 1894. This interesting bridge makes a complete circle together with its reflection.

As you continue to wander along the pathways in the Japanese Tea Garden you will see wisteria, azaleas, rhododendrons a serene waterfall and a small lake with a tortoise-shaped island which symbolizes longevity and is called "Horai-jimi" – island of eternal youth. This island with its small lake was also a part of the original Japanese Village in 1894.

As you walk along you will also come across the peace lantern which symbolizes friendship with the United States. It was presented in 1953 by the Japanese Consul General to the City of San Francisco. There are other lanterns to see in the garden as well as many ornate gates and at least two pagodas. The Japanese Tea Garden is a lovely place for tourists to visit when they are looking for a calming and relaxing, tranquil experience, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
